In 2004 Barcelona underwent yet another urban makeover as a result of the Universal Forum of Cultures 2004 being held in the city. The most highly attended activities put on outside the Forum compound were the Carlinhos Brown Carnival and the Festival del Mar, a major gathering of sailboats which was accompanied by a range of activities. Currently the Forum facility combines its conference and business functions with recreational and tourist activities.
